More than just matching
Use the SPARK Vehicle Matching Cards to play numerous games that improve language skills while having fun.
~MATCH IT! Shuffle cards and place face side down on a flat surface. Players take turns selecting and turning 2 cards over on each turn. If they are the same and ‘match,’ the player keeps the set of cards. If they do not match, the cards are turned over, and the next player takes a turn. The player with the most card sets at the end of the game is the winner.
*For a lower level, use fewer cards.
This helps to improve the following:
- Working Memory Skills
- Visual Discrimination
- Improves Concentration
- Turn taking and Social Skills
~ ASK IT! Spread the SPARK Vehicle Cards face up on the table. One person selects a SPARK Vehicle Card by thinking about it, and the other players ask questions to guess “what” the selected vehicle is. Ask questions like “Does your vehicle have 2 wheels?” or “Does your vehicle travel on tracks.” The Game continues until the correct card that was chosen is identified by opponents.
This helps to improve the following:
- Process of Elimination
- Formulating questions
- Discrimination
- Describing
~LINK IT! Select 2 different vehicle cards. Describe and tell how they are the same and how they are different. Use descriptions like ‘who’ might use them, ‘what’ they do, ‘what’ specific features they have, ‘where’ they travel, ‘why’ they have particular characteristics, and ‘how’ they work.
This improves skills such as but not limited to:
- Comparing and contrasting
- Describing
- Categorizing
- Associations
~USE IT! Use Vehicle SPARK Cards when teaching students about ‘things that go.’ Teach the name of the vehicle and add the sounds and noises that the vehicles make, such as “vroom,” “beep-beep,” “whoosh,” “chug-chug,” and “choo-choo.” Encourage your toddlers to make sounds and noises. These incredible illustrations are fresh, bright, and amazingly kid-friendly.
This improves skills such as but not limited to:
- Increasing Vocabulary
- Imitating sounds
- Sound development
~REMEMBER IT! Use SPARK cards to improve memory skills by taking a card, labeling it, and putting it face down on the table. Each player takes a turn to add a card facedown to the row but first lists all the cards already in line. Players take turns listing all the labeled cards in sequence until one player misses a card and does not remember the correct card.
This improves skills such as but not limited to:
- Concentration and word recall
- Working memory
- Making Associations
- Turn Taking
